Button # 478 Image submitted by Dixon Pickup Button # 478a 23.5mm 'VAUGHTON BIRMm' V&S HM Description Strathaven Golf Club - This club was formed in 1908 at Strathaven, Lanarkshire, some six miles SW of Hamilton on Avon Water, using a course that now comprises eighteen holes. This is a very fine silver award example (24mm) with a rare characteristic, being specifically die-struck for a grade of award. On a dimpled ground a central male golfer is poised at the top of the full round swing, with club title around the top edge and 2nd Class and Monthly Medal at the base. A wide flange back marked around the shank, Vaughton Birmm and hallmarked Birmingham 1924. Information is from an article in "The British Golf Collectors Society" written by Dixon Pickup. Instituted 1897. A 9 hole course on Brownsmuir Farm, three minutes walk from Glassford station. Present club was formed in 1908.
