Birmingham HM 1910 'WHH' and 'Parsons' (silver gilt)
|
Description
Shirehampton Park Golf Club - The club was formed in 1907 at Park Hill, Shirehampton,
Bristol. This beautiful silver-gilt and multi enamelled award button displays a positive
riot of colour! Within the Club’s title band appears a shield bearing the Arms of the City
and County of Bristol. I shall spare the reader from undergoing a detailed description
of the faithful, but heraldically-complex design. The ‘cliff top’ should be proper ie vert
but appears somewhat turquoise, (a little greener on the actual button). The difficulty
for the enameller is to get the correct mix of oxide, and green is particularly difficult,
especially when fired simultaneously with two other colours at 1100 degrees centigrade.
The button was retailed by PARSONS and hallmarked Birmingham 1910 by WHH.
Information is from an article in "The British Golf Collectors Society" written by Dixon Pickup.
