Description
Nairn Golf Club - The club was founded in 1887 and is based at West Shore, Nairn,
Inverness. The button in my collection is a fine and very large (29mm) early uniform
example in copper gilt. The central figure is taken from the Seal of the Burgh: a saint
(Ninian?) vested and crowned with a nimbus, holding in his dexter hand a staff terminating in a
cross, and in his sinister an open book. The legend Sigillum commune burgi de Nairne was not
used on the button, just the club title. Though without a back mark, the quality overall
would indicate manufacture during the early period of the Club’s existence. The silver
award type that will be shown at a later date varies slightly in design.
