30mm 'FIRMINS & SON'S 153 STRAND LONDON'
|
Description
Ashdown Forest & Tunbridge Wells Golf Club - This club was founded 22 December 1888,
at Forest Row, Sussex. A very fine uniform example in copper gilt (22mm), the flan has a
lovely rippled ground that produces very bright reflection of the incised designs. Central
clubs tied with a ribbon and balls, a title label at the base and the Latin motto, Per Tot
Discrimina Rerum (Through so many types of difficulty) around the top edge. A forest tree
in the upper angle of the clubs. Back mark ‘Firmin & Sons 153 Strand London.’ The Club
was granted the ‘Royal’ appellation in 1893.
Information is from an article in
"The British Golf Collectors Society" written by Dixon Pickup.
