From John Sagi - Researching these club
buttons has me wondering whether the bird is a Swan or a Phoenix.

4-29-2010 - Revised 5-2-2010
This motto (NON VI SED ARTE), is well known and used by many of the older golf clubs.
Non Vi Sed Arte -- Latin for "Not by strength but by guile"
Added information 5-6-2010
The gist being a club being re-born, rising from the ashes etc. and that no listed armigerous family
shows the phoenix holding a flag or staff.
