Description
Isle of Wight Golf Union - IW-012 - This was the earliest of the English county unions, being
instituted in 1896 in conjunction with Hampshire and the Channel Islands. The 23mm
example is in copper gilt with raised design showing the ancient and correct heraldic
display of Carisbrooke Castle, the single two-storey tower standing on a torse. The
abbreviated title is around the rim. The back mark, ‘Firmin & Sons Ld 47 Warwick St
Regent St London’ was in use from 1880 to 1915 only. The button may be for uniform
and/or dinner tailcoat use.
