21.5 mm 'C.Pitt & Co 50 St Martins Lane'
Description

Folkestone Golf Club - The club was Founded in 1888 at Radnor Park Avenue, Folkestone. This copper gilt uniform button of 21.5mm features the ancient seal of the town: Upon waves of the sea an antique ship of one mast, the sail furled, towered at each end, a manís head appearing above the battlements of each. At the masthead a turret with a manís head and shoulders. A man in the body of the boat and another in the lower stern turret. The reverse embossed with Pitt & Coís pre 1895 address, 50 St Martins Lane, London. The club title and site disappeared around 1958/60, but the successor, Sene Valley Folkestone and Hythe GC, two miles north of Hythe on the B2065 quote 1888 as their foundation date. By 1992 the club is shown as Sene Valley GC.

Back of button 241_0a, the St Martins Lane address for Pitts, as you know puts it before c1895.
